Software Engineering Manager - Applied ML & Localization

As the manager of the Localization Frameworks team, you will manage a phenomenal team of passionate engineers to design, implement and qualify localization features, processes and tooling across a wide variety of Apple’s products. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to help architect the future of localizing models and machine translation. Your role is to ensure Apple internal engineers, translators, linguists, and third-party developers can deliver world-class software products to millions of users around the world. You and your team will be responsible for delivering the ML tools and features to answer product, engineer and customers' requirements in an agile-like environment. This team’s duties include: - Leading the exploration and application of Large Language Models (LLMs) for performing translation tasks and Apple product features - Translating the latest research into high-quality systems and models that can be practically applied to further improve machine translation or Apple product features - Actively engaging in all aspects of model development, from ideation, training, experimentation to deployment. - Collaborating with translation, localization quality, project management and engineering teams to develop and implement solutions

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills
  • Proven track record of growing and developing people
  • Extensive cross-functional project leadership and delivery experience
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML), with a particular emphasis on Large Language Models (LLMs) and Natural Language Processing (NLP)
  • Experience engineering software features and shipping to production

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Engineering/Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • Proven ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply cutting-edge research into consumer-oriented products
  • Experience adapting pre-trained LLMs for downstream tasks
  • Successful history managing a diverse team of ML and Software Engineers
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent context switching and changing priorities

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $190,700 and $329,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
