Description

In this role, you will drive LLM based question answering, personal content search, and Apple Intelligence features to provide concise, accurate, and grounded information to users to help them complete their tasks quickly on Apple devices. You are expected to take advantage of the Apple ecosystem that blends cutting-edge hardware, software, and strong privacy/security guarantees, integrate this with the phenomenal power of Reinforcement Learning in the post-training of generative models, and then deliver the truly delightful user experiences that are uniquely Apple. You will be responsible for devising the generative AI technology vision and strategy, developing advanced RL algorithms and synthetic/human data pipelines, evangelizing it, executing the plan, improving the LLM-based model quality for multiple Apple Intelligence features, and delivering the end-user experience. You will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of organizational partners across foundation modeling, design, product and marketing, software engineering, and foundation modeling to profoundly impact billions of Apple users worldwide.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of R&D experience leading engineering/applied research/ML experiences in search, natural language processing/understanding. Conversational AI.
  • MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning with a specialty in reinforcement learning, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in the field of information retrieval, machine learning, natural language processing and understanding, and in particular, reinforcement learning-based post-training on LLM models, reward modeling, RLHF, RLAIF, Chain-of-thought, and agentic AI R&D.
  • Strong product intuition and ownership
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Growth mindset and ability to learn new technologies

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $293,300 and $468,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
