Description

As a Machine Learning Compiler Engineer, you will: • Work with experienced engineers to support the development and optimization of compilers for Apple's Neural Engine Accelerator, focusing on deep learning inference performance, scalability, and power efficiency • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to assist in bringing new hardware silicon to market, ensuring basic compiler support for new features • Assist in the design and implementation of compiler features, contributing to both technical improvements and alignment across the team • Help define approaches to compiler architecture and optimizations, learning how to balance trade-offs between performance, energy efficiency, and hardware constraints • Contribute to the performance optimization of AI workloads on Apple hardware, supporting the overall vision of the Apple Neural Engine team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Solid understanding of compiler concepts such as program analysis, intermediate representation (IR), and programming languages, particularly with MLIR and LLVM
  • Experience with compiler design, including front-end and middle-end optimizations, register allocation, and basic code generation
  • Proficiency in C++ and an eagerness to work with large, complex software systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues in software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in production software development or internships involving compiler or systems-level work
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts, particularly neural networks and deep learning frameworks
  • Knowledge of multi-threading, parallel computing, or distributed systems is a plus
  • Interest in optimizing compilers for specialized hardware like SoCs or GPUs, and/or an eagerness to learn
  • Familiarity with Just-in-Time (JIT) compilation techniques or dynamic optimization is a bonus

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $121,900 and $183,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
